Name: Kira Yamato
Series: Gundam SEED Destiny
Timeline: After Gundam SEED Destiny - Final Plus
Canon Resource Links: Gundam wikia link.
Personality:
Kira is the epitome of calm. He's usually seen just standing or sitting calmly somewhere, thinking about the world around him. It's rare for him to lose his cool over anything as he's pretty much taken the road of “zen“ in his life and decided to live as peacefully as he can. Kira doesn't seem to be bothered by much anything: he doesn't really mind what others think or say about him and he forgives people for saying bad things or even if they tried to kill him. He wants to trust in mankind, which pretty much shows in the way he treats others. He respects their opinions and tries to understand when they differ from his. Of course, there are some opinions he really cannot accept, so he would try to make others see why they’re bad. Other than that, he doesn’t really try to change anyone’s opinion, even if he does tell about his.
In the past, Kira often let his emotions take control of how he acted. He would act on how he felt without thinking. However, during the first war he began to change and take control over his feeling and become more mature that way. He’s able to observe the situations and make decisions on how to act before acting. He comes up with actions plans rather quickly, so he doesn’t just stand around thinking for long periods of time. In other words, he’s usually the one in chaotic situations to keep his cool and give advice on what to do. This is why he’s earned the respect of a whole military in ORB. Despite being a good tactician he’s not really the leader type, in his own opinion, even if a lot of people view him as a hero.
While he doesn't approve of fighting, he would do it to protect others. He would do anything to keep those important to him safe and that gives him power to do (almost) anything. However, he refuses to actually kill anyone in a battle if not absolutely necessary, so he basically attacks to make it impossible for the enemies to attack. This wasn't how it always was, but after fighting to death with his best friend, he started to think about the things he should do to end the war, instead of just fighting in it. He's said to be too soft to participate in a war, which he is. It wasn't his choice to go to a war in the first place, but he really had no other choice. The scars of war are still in him and he will carry them until the end of his life. It doesn't show much, but he does have several traumas about the war and the people he did kill in the past. He also cries for the sake of those he has killed or hurt, rather than crying for himself. He's really emphatic and emotional in that matter.
When you meet Kira for the first time, you might notice he’s quiet, almost shy. It’s not too hard to get to know him, but it might take some time. He doesn’t hold much, if any, prejudice against others, but he is a bit careful around new people because of the past wars. Any suspicious acts that he’s heard of or has seen also affect on how he interacts with new people, even if he wants to hear their side of the story first before judging anyone. Once he’s comfortable enough around others he opens up and talks more: though he’s more of the type who listens to his friends rather than talk. He wants to help his friends in any way he can.
Even if he has resolved not to kill anyone anymore, he’s had to do that a few times in order to end the conflicts. One of these kills was, for example, Stellar Loussier, when she became berserk during the battle of Berlin. If there had been any other choices, he would have acted otherwise, but he did what he needed to in order to minimize the damage in the surrounding areas. He’s met people who he has supposedly killed. Meeting them again has always increased his guilt, but he’s also been able to move on when he’s been forgiven. He does act a bit reserved around all the people he’s fought with during the wars, but if they’re approaching him in a friendly manner, he sees no reason to hold bigger grudges. For example, at the end of the series he met Shinn Asuka, who had earlier tried to kill him, but instead of saying anything about that he extended his hand to greet him and asked him to join him in the fight to “replant all the flowers that have been blown away”, since Shinn didn’t seem to be hostile against him.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Endurance: his physical skills have been altered before birth so that his body endures a lot more than a normal humans'. Basically, he doesn't get as sick as others and he can survive what normal humans don't.
+ Technician: because he's a coordinator he can easily rewrite a code for a program, as an example. He's also experienced on using mobile suits to fight.
+ Calm: He's able to remain calm under most situations. He's generally not hotheaded and thinks before acting.
+/- Pacifist: Doesn't do well with fighting unless it's to protect someone. It might be difficult for him to adjust to Pokémon battles unless given a purpose.
+/- Stuck in the past: Sometimes he stops to think about the past for long periods of time. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it does sometimes affect on his thoughts and feelings and makes him really passive to surroundings.
- Traumatized: He's suffers from various traumas from past wars. While these don't affect his everyday life, they might one day come back to haunt him later.
- Emotional: He cries semi-easily. Usually he doesn't cry for himself, but for the people he's had to face and defeat.
- Too good: ... for his own good. He's a person who doesn't belong to the battlefield, because he's too affected by everything and anything that happens.
